A lash lift with a tint is one of the simplest ways to wake up with open, defined eyes for several weeks, and a surprising part of the result is decided before you even sit down in the chair. Lashes that arrive clean, dry and free of serum take the curl more evenly. A client who has thought about allergies, contact lenses and her plans for the next 24 hours has a calmer appointment and a better-lasting lift. This guide explains how to prepare for a lash lift and tint in Geneva, from the week before to the moment you leave the studio, with the practical details we wish every client knew in advance.
We will not go through the lifting technique itself in detail here; that is covered on our lash lift page. This article is about you: what to do, what to avoid, what to bring and what to plan around.
What a lash lift and tint actually is
An eyelash lift curls your natural lashes upward from the root using a soft silicone shield and a sequence of lotions. Nothing is added: the lashes you already have are simply shown at their best, as if you had just used a curler, except that the effect lasts for weeks.
The tint is an optional step, usually done in the same appointment, that darkens the lashes from root to tip. It matters most for people whose lash tips are lighter than the base, which is very common: once the tips are coloured, lashes look longer and more visible without mascara. Together, lift and tint give that "done but natural" look many clients in Geneva ask for before holidays, a busy season at work or a special occasion.
Because both steps use cosmetic products close to the eye, preparation is not only about the result. It is also about comfort and safety.
Who it suits, and when to wait or ask your doctor first
A lash lift with tint suits most people whose lashes are long enough to wrap around a shield, particularly straight, downward-pointing or light-tipped lashes. It is a good choice if you want a low-maintenance look and no daily curler or mascara.
Postpone, or speak with your doctor before booking, if any of these apply:
- an eye infection or inflammation (conjunctivitis, a stye, a flare-up of blepharitis) that has not fully cleared;
- recent eye surgery or an ongoing eye treatment;
- a known allergy to hair dye, cosmetics, adhesives or perm products, or eczema around the eyes;
- pregnancy or breastfeeding, when hormonal changes can make results less predictable;
- lashes that are currently damaged or very brittle, for example after a recent lift.
If you are unsure, tell us when you book. The consultation exists to protect you, and we would rather move the appointment than go ahead on eyes that are not ready.
How to choose the right option for you
A little thought before booking makes the appointment smoother.
- Classic or Korean lift? Our classic Lash Lift gives a natural, open curl. The Korean Lash Lift uses several small rods that separate the lashes into little groups for a denser, more defined, "fluffy" look. It suits fine, close-set lashes and clients who want more definition.
- Tint or no tint? If your lashes are dark to the tips, the lift alone may be enough. If the tips are light, the tint makes a visible difference. A tint can be added to your lift; just ask when you book.
- Brows at the same time? Many clients combine the lift with brow lamination, brow waxing or a hybrid brow tint in the same visit. It saves a trip and harmonises the whole eye area. If you want this, choose the combined service when booking so that enough time is reserved.
- Recovering from a bad lift? If your lashes were over-processed elsewhere, book a Lash Lift Rescue first rather than a new lift.
The appointment, step by step, from your side of the chair
Knowing what to expect helps you relax, and relaxed eyes stay still more easily.
- Arrival and questions. We check allergies, contact lenses and recent treatments, and look at your lashes to choose the shield size and whether a tint suits you.
- Lying down. You lie back comfortably with your eyes closed for the rest of the appointment. Many clients doze off.
- The lift. Lashes are cleansed, placed on the shield and processed. You may notice a faint tingle; say so if anything stings.
- The tint, if chosen, is applied during the same appointment, followed by a nourishing finish.
- Reveal and advice. Shields are removed, you see the result, and we go over the aftercare for the next 24 hours.

How to prepare: the complete checklist

One week before
- Stop any lash growth serum at least seven days before your appointment. Serums leave a film on the lashes that acts as a barrier: lifting products cannot penetrate evenly, and the result may be weaker, uneven or shorter-lived.
- Do not use a heated or mechanical curler repeatedly in the days before; you want lashes in their natural condition.
- If you wear lash extensions, they must be removed before a lift. Have them removed professionally, never pulled off, and allow your lashes to be in good condition before lifting.
- If you have ever reacted to hair dye, tint or cosmetics, ask for a patch test when you book, and allow time for it before the appointment.
The day before
- Wash your hair if you like to: after the lift, your lashes must stay dry for 24 hours, so a hair wash the same evening becomes complicated.
- Plan sport and sauna for today rather than tomorrow. Heavy sweating, steam rooms, saunas and swimming pools are off-limits for 24 hours after the lift.
- Skip heavy, oily night creams close to the eyes.
On the day
- Arrive with clean, bare lashes. No mascara, no eyeliner, no oily make-up remover. Waterproof mascara is the hardest to remove completely, so avoid it the day before too.
- Contact lenses: we recommend removing them for the treatment. Bring your case and solution, or come in glasses.
- Arrive a few minutes early and relaxed. Rushing in with a hot, flushed face is not ideal.
- Tell us about any new medication, recent eye treatments or sensitivity since your last visit.
- Bring no expectations from filters. Show us a photo if you like, but we will tell you honestly what your lashes can do.
Timing around events
Book your lift a few days before a wedding, holiday or photo shoot rather than the day before. The curl can look strongest in the first day or two and then relaxes into its most natural shape, and you avoid any stress about the 24-hour no-water rule. If you are travelling to the sea or a spa, make sure the first 24 hours fall before you get there.
Special cases worth mentioning when you book
- Short or very fine lashes. A lift needs enough length to wrap around the shield. If your lashes are very short, we will look at them first and tell you honestly whether a lift will show, or whether another option would suit you better.
- Sensitive or watery eyes. Let us know in advance. Coming well rested helps, and you can ask for short pauses if your eyes need them.
- Previous lifts. Tell us when your last lift was done and where. If it has not fully grown out, we may advise you to wait: lifting on top of a lift is one of the most common causes of frizzy, dry lashes.
- A recent brow or face treatment. Mention peels, laser or any treatment close to the eyes in the past weeks, so we can check the skin is calm.
- Glasses wearers. You can put your glasses back on straight after the appointment; just avoid pressing the frame against freshly lifted lashes.
Being open about these points is not a formality: it is how we adapt the appointment to your eyes rather than to a standard protocol.
Your first days, and what to expect from the timeline
| When | What to do | What you may notice |
|---|---|---|
| 7 days before | Stop lash growth serums; book a patch test if you have reacted to products before | Nothing: lashes return to a clean, natural state |
| Day before | Wash your hair, do your sport or sauna session, skip waterproof mascara | – |
| Appointment day | Arrive with bare, clean lashes; remove contact lenses; mention any change in health | A faint tingle during processing is common; say so if anything stings |
| First 24 hours | No water, steam, sauna, pool, eye make-up or rubbing | A very strong curl; lashes may feel slightly dry |
| Days 2–7 | Brush gently, sleep on your back if you can, mascara allowed again | The curl relaxes into a softer, natural lift |
| Weeks 6–8 | Book your next lift once the curl has grown out | The curl fades gradually as new lashes grow |
If you notice swelling, spreading redness, intense itching or eye pain at any point, this is not part of the normal timeline: see a doctor or pharmacist.
Aftercare: protecting your lift and tint
For the first 24 hours:
- keep lashes away from water and steam, and avoid heavy crying;
- no sauna, steam room or swimming pool;
- no eye make-up, no mascara, no oily cleansers;
- do not rub, pull or pinch the lashes.
After that, brush your lashes gently each morning, use a nourishing lash serum as we advise, and keep rich, oily products away from the lash line. Oil-based removers can make the tint fade faster, so a gentle, oil-free cleanser around the eyes is the better choice. You will probably find that mascara is almost unnecessary; if you wear it, choose a non-waterproof formula that is easy to remove.
How long it lasts and what it costs
A lash lift generally lasts six to eight weeks, following your natural lash growth cycle, and fades softly with no regrowth line. The tint usually fades a little sooner as the lashes are cleansed day after day. Book your next lift once the previous one has grown out; lifting too often can dry the lashes. | Preparation | Clean lashes, no serum for 7 days, patch test if sensitive | Clean lashes, no serum for 7 days | None | Clean lashes, no oily products |
Conclusion: start with a consultation
Good preparation for a lash lift and tint is simple: stop growth serums a week before, arrive with clean bare lashes, sort out contact lenses and any extensions in advance, tell us about allergies, and plan your 24 hours without water, steam or mascara. Do that, and the appointment becomes a quiet hour lying down, followed by weeks of lifted, defined lashes. If you are unsure which option suits your lashes, whether you need a patch test, or how to fit the appointment around an event, start with a conversation. We will look at your lashes and recommend what we would choose for our own.
